Shinzo Abe, a former Japanese prime minister, was  killed

Shinzo Abe, a former Japanese prime minister, was shot on Friday while giving the speech in Nara, Japan. As confirmed by the doctors who were attending to him, Abe passed away at age 67.

The shooting:

Officials in Tokyo said that he had a gunshot wound to the right side of his neck. He was flown to the hospital by medical helicopter after being transported there by ambulance.

Rushed to the hospital:

According to doctors at Nara Medical University, Abe was in a condition of cardiac arrest when he arrived at the hospital at 12:20 p.m. local time.

Confirmed dead:

According to the head of Nara Medical University, Abe was confirmed dead at 5:03 local time.

The suspect:

Tetsuya Yamagami, a  41-year-old shooting suspect, was detained by police and confessed to shooting Abe.

Homemade Gun:

He used a handmade pistol in the shooting, and police reported that many homemade pistol-like objects were found from his apartment.

The longest-serving prime minister of Japan in history was Abe. In 2020, he announced his resignation as leader, citing health issues.
